News has come out this evening that Cohen Bramall might be making a Championship move to newly promoted Rotherham United.

Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas revealed on Twitter that Rotherham have triggered the £200,000 release clause in Cohen Bramall’s contract and he will complete a medical tomorrow.

Although some supporters are surprised at the news, it is good for us. He may have been lethal down the wing with his pace but he is reportedly entering the last year of his contract with the club and he could be behind Jamie Robson in the pecking order going into next season.

He had a stop-start season last year, he had some poor moments such as being at fault for the equalizer away at Cheltenham but he managed to turn his season and his pace was really effective for us, especially in the back three that we used at times. Bramall would have been a useful asset for us next season, but he isn’t one of the players that I’d expect the fanbase to panic at if we do end up losing him. If we play a back four next season (which is likely) I think Robson would have got the nod anyway.

The reported fee seems very good. A player with one year left on their deal going for £200,000 is good business at this level, especially considering Tayo Edun went for around £500,000 last year with a year left on his deal and Bramall is nowhere near as important to us as Edun was. If Bramall was starting week in week out you might question the fee, but for someone who isn’t a nailed on starter it is very good and it can be reinvested into other areas of the pitch or even into facilities.

Bramall always puts 100% in which I respect and have noticed over the last eighteen months of covering him and Lincoln City, so if he does go I wish him good luck next season.
