Cohen Bramall Departs
It has been confirmed today, that Imps’ left-back Cohen Bramall will leave the football club after Championship side, Rotherham United triggered his release clause.
Cohen joined City in January of 2021, signing from Colchester United. Since then he has gone on to make 54 appearances for the club, scoring two goals. The rumoured fee is believed to be around £200,000, which as I said when the news broke, it is a very good fee for a potential squad player with one year left on his deal. Bramall was massive for us in the second half of the season but in January, people wanted him gone for some mistakes he made over the Christmas period, so to get that some of money for the player is very good business.
The money we get for Bramall, doesn’t necessarily have to be invested into another left-back as we have Jamie Robson, who came in for a large fee last summer and Sean Roughan is fresh back from his loan away with Drogheda and he could push for the first-team spot and he has shown in the past he is more than good enough to play for City at this level. We still have a long way to go in terms of our own transfer business so adding part of that £200,000 to the budget would be a big boost for Mark Kennedy and the squad.
Obviously, I would have liked Bramall to stay, the same as most fans, his pace was a really useful asset but he didn’t feel like the finished article. He was poor in the defensive third and he was our most attacking player at times last season and he could only pick out one in four crosses. Bramall is a player that blew hot and cold with our fanbase but I think most can agree that the fee we have got for him, having only a year left on his contract and with our current left-back options, it is incredible business from the club.
It may have sounded in this article that I was putting Cohen down or that I didn’t rate him. I actually do rate Bramall and think he has a big future ahead of him, as not every player is spotted by Arsenal and given a deal by Arsene Wenger. I wish Cohen all the best in the future at Rotherham except when he plays us at some point in the future.
