Lincoln City announced the signing of Portsmouth winger Reeco Hackett-Fairchild today for an undisclosed fee on a three year deal.

The 25-year-old dynamic forward came close to signing for us on deadline day in January, but Portsmouth pulled out of the deal late as they missed out on their own target. The player spent the second half of the season with Pompey but played a sporadic squad role and wasn’t really given the chance to feature regularly. It’s fair to say he was never a really in John Mousinho’s plans and that is backed up by the fact he has pretty much been told to leave in this window.

We’ve all heard what Pompey fans have been saying about the player but I advise you take that with a pinch of salt. RHF was obviously a big target for us considering we’ve gone back for him the following window, and if Mark Kennedy wants him then it’s enough for me to get behind the deal. He’s a player that I’ve always genuinely liked, but I’ve only seen him play on a few occasions. Most of them being against Lincoln, and I think he has a lot of talent, but just needs that consistency and regular minutes. He brings pace and some flair to our side, something we’ve been lacking I’d say in the last two seasons. He can play anywhere across the front three, which suits our 3-4-3 system or even the 3-5-2 if we ever play that again. On top of that, he has played wing-back on a few occasions too, giving us a viable option there.

Upon signing with the club, Reeco said: “I’m very happy for the deal to get over the line and I am looking forward to getting started.

“When I first spoke to the head coach it came across as a family club and somewhere I felt wanted and appreciated.

“I am an attacking player who is direct and left-footed. I like to score goals and would say I am quite a creative player. I aim to help the team and be successful to try and create history.”

What’s does it mean for other members of the squad is what you might be thinking at this current time. I think it’s the end for Charles Vernam’s time at Lincoln City. Hackett-Fairchild won’t be the only winger we sign this window I feel. He was linked with a loan to Grimsby Town in January and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s where he went in the next few weeks. Some people seem to be worried about our potential pursuit of Mide Shodipo, but I don’t think this signing affects that, even with Hackett-Fairchild, we are still in need of another few attackers.

I like this signing, it’s Mark Kennedy’s man by the sounds of it and I trust him to bring in the right players to take us forward.
