Mark Kennedy Offers Ted Bishop Verdict Following ‘Super-Sub’ Cameo

Mark Kennedy has offered his verdict on Ted Bishop following his super-sub cameo performances against Wycombe and Shrewsbury in the last few League One fixtures.
Ted came on against Wycombe in the 60th for his first appearance of the season, and the midfielder completely changed the game for City, as he starred alongside Ethan Erhahon in central midfield. The former Ipswich man scored on his return to the side as well as assisting Danny Mandroiu in the late stages to seal a big win and first three points of the season for City.
Ted backed up that performance on Saturday, once again coming off the bench and having a massive impact. The game changed with Ted replacing Mandroiu, and Mark changing the system to a 3-5-2 to a 3-4-3, a system that Ted thrives in. Despite not notching a goal or an assist, the 27-year-old was a key part in the Imps gaining control of a tight contest in tough conditions.
Mark was really pleased with the way that Ted impacted the game, and spoke very highly of him in the process. Ted has impressed everyone around the club with his level of performance so far this season considering his hampered pre-season, but despite his performances, Mark is content with his current playing time, putting importance on building his fitness and being careful due to his past record with injury.
“Teddy – for me – is one of the best players in the league. He’s an outstanding talent but he’s just got a bit of a fragile body.”
“I spoke to him before the Northampton game. He’s a top player but he’s comfortable coming on for half an hour to get a run of games to build up his fitness. The cameo roles suit Teddy at the moment, but we want to get him up to that 70 minute mark as soon as we can and he feels comfortable with that.”
Mark was really pleased with his side against Shrewsbury and the way they battled hard to three points, especially after the disappointment of conceding two late goals in a 2-2 draw with Northampton last Tuesday.
“That’s three clean sheets in four games. Strikers win games, but defenders win titles. We are some way away from that but my point is that clean sheets are so important. It was really tough conditions for both sides but I was really pleased with our grit, determination and togetherness, especially coming off the back of Tuesday’s result.”
City continue their season this Saturday, with Blackpool visiting Sincil Bank, and with Neil Critchley’s side boasting an impressive defensive record, Ted may be needed from the bench to help City secure three points once again.
