Chris Cohen has left City’s coaching staff to pursue an opportunity at EFL Championship side, Stoke City.

Cohen first joined the Imps in October 2023, joining the club as interim assistant head coach, working with Tom Shaw during his interim spell as head coach. Following Michael Skubala’s appointment, Cohen left the coaching team but returned on January 13th, ahead of our late draw with Wycombe Wanderers.

Cohen is a high quality coach, having spent most of his career in the Championship and even in the Premier League, alongside current Charlton Athletic manager, Nathan Jones. The former Nottingham Forest midfielder will be a big miss for City going into the 2024/25 campaign, but we have no shortage of quality coaches with Skubala, Shaw and Scott Fry.

Director of football Jez George said: “Chris is someone of the highest calibre who leaves with the respect and thanks of everyone at the club. He contributed hugely last season in supporting Michael and Tom but, even more importantly, in supporting and helping the players.

“We always had the understanding that Chris would look at options in the Championship or higher if we were not promoted, so he absolutely leaves with our best wishes. He is always welcome at the LNER Stadium and we wish him well with his next role.”
