Michael Skubala: Tyler Walker Return Feels Like a “New Signing”

Michael Skubala thinks Tyler Walker feels like a new signing and is excited to work with the striker after he spent almost the entirety of last season out with injury.

Walker signed for the Imps last summer, after years of rumour about a return to Sincil Bank following an impressive loan stint in the 2019/20 season, that saw him bag 14 goals in 29 games.

He made his debut as a permanent player against Bolton Wanderers and played just six times before suffering an injury. He was due back in November, but picked up another injury that would all but curtail his season.  Walker managed to return to the fold against Portsmouth on the final day of the season, coming on as a late substitute with the Imps chasing the game.

City’s head coach spoke to BBC Radio Lincolnshire’s Michael Hortin on the Red Imps Club podcast and admitted that he’s excited to work with Walker next season.

Skubala said: “Tyler is coming back from a long term injury but we know his quality. Tyler needs a good season, and I’m really looking forward to working with him more closely.

“I didn’t put him on the bench at Portsmouth because he’d been out, I put him on the bench because I know in front of goal, he’s got a finish that’s one of the best I’ve seen in this league. He’s got to grow into the team and the way we play.

“It feels like a new signing to me, and what a signing that is to have. I’ve seen him working hard, even behind the scenes in these last couple of weeks to get back and he’s raring to go, which is nice to see.”

The Imps return to pre-season training on Friday for testing, before a full return to the grass on Monday. Skubala’s side will head on a pre-season tour to Spain, taking on Preston North End in Murcia before returning to the UK.
