Ted Bishop has confirmed his departure from Lincoln City with a post on social media.

The midfielder made 111 appearances for the Imps over the past three seasons. Bishop joined City in 2021, signing under Michael Appleton, and went on to play under four different head coaches (including Tom Shaw). He scored his first goal for the club against Shrewsbury Town in the Carabao Cup and notched 15 goals overall during his time at Sincil Bank.

He was a bright spark during a difficult 21/22 season and one of the only successful signings of that transfer window. He scored in a 2-0 win against AFC Wimbledon that season, which all but secured League One football for the following campaign. Despite being labelled as injury prone, Bishop was one of City’s consistently available players throughout his first campaign with the club, playing in a number of different positions ranging from striker to midfield to right-back.

He started the 22/23 season strong under Mark Kennedy, especially in the month of August, scoring a memorable solo effort against Doncaster Rovers in the Carabao Cup, twice against Barnsley in the EFL Trophy and then two more against Fleetwood. His form was interrupted by injury, but he returned for the second half of the campaign, forming a reliable partnership with Ethan Erhahon.

His last season with the club saw his best performances in a City shirt, especially in the second half of the campaign. Michael Skubala managed to keep Bishop fit and available for a prolonged period of time and he became a crucial part of the run towards the play-offs in the business end of the campaign, scoring an excellent free-kick against Carlisle to seal all three points on Easter Monday. The midfielder came off at Reading with injury, in a game that ended up being his final appearance as an Imp.

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday night, Bishop posted a photo from the 2023/24 season to announce his departure with the caption: “3 years, 111 appearances, 31 G+A and about 7 different positions😂 thanks for all the support you imps ⚽️❤️”

Bishop has recently been on trial with Charlton Athletic, featuring in a number of pre-season games but he’s no longer with the Addicks as he continues a search for a new club. Despite being offered a new contract, Bishop won’t be staying at Sincil Bank although the details are unknown as to whether that decision was solely on the player or not.

He was unplayable on his day and can be one of the best midfielders in the division. It would be no surprise to see a top club pick him up or potentially a Leyton Orient style side if he wants to be the main man and have a team built around him. With JJ McKiernan and Tom Bayliss as attacking midfield options, Bishop has certainly been replaced but he’ll be missed around Sincil Bank as he’s a player that could’ve thrived under a full season of Michael Skubala’s leadership.

The other players that left the club at the end of their contracts, TJ Eyoma and Hakeeb Adelakun are playing for the PFA’s free agent side at the minute, while Danny Mandroiu has been linked with a move to Blackpool.
