Lincoln City will begin their 2024/25 Bristol Street Motors campaign on Tuesday with a return to Sincil Bank against Chesterfield.

City battled to a narrow victory at Stevenage on Saturday thanks to a Jack Moylan penalty in the second, which was won by substitute JJ McKiernan.

Team News

There could be some rotation for the Imps on Tuesday night. New signings Erik Ring, Bailey Cadamarteri and Saxon Earley may get their first starts for City although it’s not been confirmed that the former is available to play.

Tom Hamer and Lewis Montsma could come into the defensive positions, while one of Zach Jeacock or Jamie Pardington is likely to replace first choice goalkeeper George Wickens.

Dylan Duffy could feature after losing his place in the side to Dom Jefferies, while Freddie Draper and Rob Street will certainly be wanting a chance to stake their claim for a place in the starting eleven when the Imps get back to league action.

Young academy prospects Zane Okoro and Gbolahan Okewoye may also feature after spending some of pre-season with the first team.

Chesterfield

Tuesday’s visitors won promotion to Sky Bet League Two last season by winning the National League and they’ve enjoyed a steady start to life back in the football league. Paul Cook’s side started with a 1-1 draw against former City head coach Mark Kennedy’s Swindon Town before winning their second league game 5-0 away at Crewe Alexandra. In recent weeks they’ve struggled to pick up wins and haven’t recorded a victory in their last three outings.

Armando Dobra will be the danger man for Chesterfield if he plays, while Will Grigg played a key part for The Spireites last season, scoring 25 times in the National League.

Tendayi Darikwa started his career at Chesterfield, played 150 times and won promotion with them. Chesterfield have former City academy prospect Tim Akinola on their books but the midfielder is currently on loan at Dagenham and Redbridge.

Head-to-head

City have only faced Tuesday night’s opponents twice since 2011. In 2017, Michael Bostwick was on the scoresheet as the Imps ran out 2-1 winners and the central defender was also on the scoresheet in a 3-1 win away at Chesterfield the same season, along with Scott Wharton and Ollie Palmer – England international, former Arsenal and current Southampton goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale was in-between the sticks that day.
