Skubala Provides Injury Update on Makama and Draper

Michael Skubala provides an update on Makama and Draper, and talks about City’s second half performance.

Michael Skubala was delighted with the way his side changed their approach in the second half against Leyton Orient.

Head coach Skubala named three changes from the 1-1 draw with Blackpool midweek. George Wickens retained his place in goal after a Man of the Match performance against the Seasiders, with Paudie O’Connor and Sean Roughan playing alongside Tom Hamer, who replaced the suspended Adam Jackson. Tendayi Darikwa and Dom Jefferies started as the wing-backs with Conor McGrandles and Ethan Erhahon retaining their places in the midfield. Tom Bayliss replaced Jack Moylan while Freddie Draper came into the side and partnered Jovon Makama in attack.

One big talking point was Ethan Hamilton being involved in a matchday squad for the first time since February and the Scotsman did make a return from the bench late in the second half.

A difficult first half was followed by an exciting second period, with Makama and Draper both getting on the scoresheet before a goal from Orient made it a nervy last ten minutes.

Speaking to BBC Radio Lincolnshire’s Michael Hortin, Skubala discussed the turnaround his side made: “I thought it was a tough game, we knew it would be. They’re a good team with threats on the top line. I thought first half, we weren’t at it, second to duels and a bit jaded from the week. It’s been a long week with travelling back from Blackpool so I thought we lacked a bit of energy.

“Half-time, we talked about that, energy, desire, winning duels. Before the tactics stuff works we have be on those things and I thought second half we looked a threat, came out fast and strong.”

Skubala also provided an update on goalscorers Makama and Draper, who both came off with suspected injuries in the second-half. He also revealed that Tendayi Darikwa picked up a bit of knock but the news shouldn’t be too worrying for City fans with a two week break before the next league outing against Birmingham City.

“That’s probably the most let’s see through the day because they’ve both got pulls and we don’t know how bad they are so we never know. It could be a week, less than a week or four weeks so that’s the only downside.

“Tendayi has a bit of a knock as well but that’s three games in seven days and knocks and bodies.
