You may or may not have realised that our game against Doncaster was Anthony Scully’s 100th Lincoln City appearance. In that time he has scored thirty-five goals, made seventeen assists and taken part in a play-off final and countless big games. In this piece, we will be taking a look at three of Anthony’s best moments so far in a Lincoln City shirt.

Scully signed for City in January 2020 from West Ham and has been a fan favourite ever since his first goal against Accrington Stanley. It isn’t just the fans he has impressed though, pundits and experts alike have heaped praise on him and this season he has a chance to become the first Lincoln City player to score fifteen goals in three consecutive seasons.

#3 – Fleetwood (H) 21/22

Anthony Scully got all the headlines as fans returned to the stands of Sincil Bank scoring two second half goals to turn around a 1-0 deficit. The first of the two was a stunning effort, coming in on his right foot to bend it into the top right corner. The second goal was created by Tayo Edun after he was cleared out in the penalty area by a Fleetwood defender. The departure of Jorge Grant meant the Irishman was on penalty duty and he made no mistake from the spot to give the returning home fans three points to cheer about.

The game marked the first full capacity game at Sincil Bank since Anthony scored the winner in March 2020 against Burton Albion. Fans were left starved without live football, having gone almost eighteen months without it at Sincil Bank and Anthony gave over 8,000 fans a truly special moment after months of hardship.

#2 – Peterborough United (A) 20/21

Although this was a game that left many fans in disbelief after Peterborough clawed back a three goal deficit to go on and get promoted, it was one of Anthony Scully’s best games in a Lincoln City shirt. His first goal was typical Scully with a header into the bottom corner after connecting with a cross from Harry Anderson, but the second goal was a show of his class and ability as he cut in on his right foot to bend it into the top right corner past Joe Bursik in the Peterborough goal.

His second goal turned out to win the club official goal of the season award and the AllLincoln goal of the season award, and while the result wasn’t what we wanted, the goals and the point was crucial to us securing the play-offs and giving us the chance to make it to the championship for the first time in over sixty years.

#1 – Cambridge United (A) – 21/22

Despite a tough 21/22 campaign as a whole, there was moments to remember and one of them was Anthony’s masterclass against Cambridge United early in the season. It was a 5-1 win for the Imps, with Scully scoring two himself and assisting the other three goals. The first goal was a trademark Scully goal, he brought down a ball from, then captain, Liam Bridcutt and curled his effort into the top right corner to make it 3-0 to City in under thirty minutes. His second goal was almost a carbon copy of the first but this time it was at the opposite end that he curled his effort into the top right corner.

He was the best player on the pitch that day by a mile and looked levels above everyone else around him. We have seen him score goals multiple times but something about Cambridge away and our dominance over a good side makes this both in my opinion and statistically his best game in a Lincoln City shirt.

Moving away from team achievements, Scully won the most AllLincoln MOTM awards in 20/21 and currently has the most in the squad. On top of that he has won multiple official club awards, including two golden boot awards in a row, scoring seventeen goals in 20/21 and fifteen in 21/22.

20/21 – 10

21/22 – 5

Total – 15 (Most in the squad)
