Mark Kennedy issued his verdict on Jacob Davenport earlier this week, and commented on his contract that is due to end in January.
The 23-year-old Davenport began his youth career with Manchester City and was there when Mark Kennedy, the current manager of the Imps, was a Citizen. With Burton Albion, where he played Championship football, he got his first taste of senior football. He signed a permanent contract with Blackburn Rovers after his Manchester City agreement expired.
His deal with the Lancashire club expired this summer, and he was allegedly on trials with Hearts of the Scottish Premiership and Reading of the EFL Championship. Davenport joined Blackburn Rovers as soon as they were promoted from League One in 2018, but he only made 36 appearances throughout the four-year period due to injuries. Davenport was supposed to join to Aberdeen in the January transfer window, but a deal fell through at the last minute, and somehow he was left available to pick up after the summer window ended.
Despite showing good potential throughout his career, injuries have affected him and that has been evident throughout his time at the Imps with Davenport struggling to make himself available for selection a large majority of the time. Kennedy spoke on the situation to the local press before the scheduled Cheltenham Town fixture.
“He has done well for us, he has been really unlucky and unfortunate with a few injuries through no fault of his own, so his availability has not hampered him, in terms of, getting a new contract.”

“Jacob [Davenport] has been in for a short time, thankfully I know him as well. I’ve seen him work at length for a couple of years and he’s a pleasure to have round the place.”
Jacob has been unlucky with his injuries so far. He looked really competent and composed against Doncaster before his injury and since then he has not been able to get a real good amount of minutes and when them opportunities have come up, such as Chippenham away in the cup or the Everton Under 21 game, he has not been available for selection.
With only a few weeks to go until January, it will be interesting to see if Jacob stays, or if he departs the club after just three games for the club.
