Mark Kennedy Issues Jordan Wright Verdict

Mark Kennedy discussed Jordan Wright signing a new contract and what it means going into next season.

Jordan Wright signed a new two-year deal on Wednesday less than twenty-four hours after an impressive outing against Barnsley, keeping a clean sheet.

Wright signed for City in January 2022 as a backup for Josh Griffiths. Less than two months into his time at the club, the 24-year-old stopper was pushed into first-team action due to an injury that saw Griffiths ruled out for the season and return to West Brom early. Jordan went on to make thirteen League One appearances, keeping four clean sheets leading to rumours of Championship interest. Despite rumours, a move never really looked on the cards and he continued with the Imps into the 22/23 season under new manager Mark Kennedy.

Carl Rushworth was signed in the summer meaning Wright was demoted back to the role of backup but his performances this season haven’t gone unnoticed. Mark previously paid tribute to Jordan, following an impressive performance from Carl against Oxford saying that Jordan had played his role in pushing Carl in training to be in such a rich vein of form. Mark has once again sung the praises of Jordan following the extension of his contract as he previewed Wycombe Wanderers

“I think he’s been excellent all year, I think he deserves it. He’s going to make a really good number one when the time is right.

“He’s got great attributes, 6″7, kicks well, makes really good saves but he’s got to be more dominant with his coming for crosses. We are quite fortunate with the keepers here with Carl [Rushworth, Jordan [Wright] and Sam [Long], who has a big future ahead of him.”

Mark touched upon the chances of Wright being named number one next season and while he was full of praise, he downplayed his chances but assured he was fully part of his thinking going into next season.

“I think that would be an ongoing conversation but he’s definitely a huge part of our thinking [for next season].”

You can hear from both Mark Kennedy and Lasse Sorensen as they preview our trip to Wycombe Wanderers tomorrow afternoon on the club’s official YouTube channel.
