An update has been provided on Hakeeb Adelakun as the Imps look to find the winger a new club.

BBC Radio Lincolnshire’s Michael Hortin tweeted earlier this afternoon that a potential deal for Adelakun to leave the club had fallen through, meaning at the moment he remains an Imps player. The club are looking to get Adelakun off the books, with the player not needed by Mark Kennedy. Although he remains with the club, he hasn’t featured at all this season in any matchday squad and he wasn’t present in any pre-season friendlies at all.

Adelakun has been around the club all summer and has remained training with the Imps. He remains a model professional but you can imagine he’ll be desperate to seal a move away from Sincil Bank today, but it will be difficult with his wage demands and his most recent year of football being a poor year in League Two with Gillingham.

I want every player to succeed at City but I really wanted Adelakun to become a key player for us. He showed signs in his early months with the club – scoring against Cambridge and Bradford – but he failed to kick on when needed. Some may say that wasn’t all down to him, he was a victim of a really poor transfer window and the quality that surrounded him wasn’t good enough. He properly lost his place in January with the likes of Liam Cullen and Morgan Whittaker joining on loan, and although he showed flashes, he wasn’t going to make it at Sincil Bank. When we signed him in the summer of 2021, it felt like a big statement and it really excited me. He came in as a player that had done done exceptionally well at League Two, and had looked useful in a League One loan move to Hull.

Hopefully we can come to a solution today and manage to get Adelakun off the books, as it will be a move that is perfect for all parties, especially with the player getting the chance to find a new club and get his career back on track.
