City have agreed the signing of Jack Moylan from Shelbourne, with the forward joining the Imps in January.

The Imps have been chasing Moylan throughout the summer, and have finally got a deal in place for him to become a City player in January. He is a bright and young attacking midfielder, with an eye for goal having already scored eight this season in 29 games alongside two assists. Moylan, who comes from Killbarrick in North Dublin, was considered a top talent in Ireland throughout his youth career, which saw him make his breakthrough into the Bohemian’s first team, making his debut for them in the league in 2021, to get regular football he moved to Wexford on loan, where he really caught the eye.

During his loan stint at Wexford, he scored seven goals in 14 appearances from the number ten position, which really helped him kick start his career. His spell with Wexford in the 2021 Irish season led to Shelbourne’s interest, and they completed a deal for the attacking midfielder.

The 22-year-old has scored eight goals in 24 appearances this season, building on an impressive breakthrough campaign at Shelbourne, which saw him score seven times across 17 appearances in 2022.

Imps director of football Jez George said: “I hope that this news is a bonus to our supporters and exciting news after the closing of the transfer window. We didn’t want to announce anything on deadline day to be respectful to Shelbourne due to their crucial game against St Patrick’s Athletic on Friday.

“We are excited for Jack to join our Irish contingent from January. He is an exciting young talent who we look forward to developing at Lincoln City and a player that we have tracked extensively and watched progress under the guidance of Damian Duff. In the meantime, we wish Jack well in first helping Shelbourne qualify for Europe.”

Moylan adds to our Irish talent at the club, with the likes of Danny Mandroiu and Paudie O’Connor already being key assets to the football club. We have once again visited the Irish market as we look to improve our team, and the League of Ireland has proved to be a level we trust, with players coming in and our own young players heading out on loan with great success. The winger will add some quality depth to our side, and fierce compeititon with Hackett, Mandroiu, Duffy and Moylan all fighting for a starting spot in the side.

Unfortunately, he will only join us in January and continue with Shelbourne as they look to secure a place in Europe, but more importantly that gives him a chance to develop even further before he joins us. It’s also likely he is given the chance to have some time off once his contract expires in December, so he’s fit and ready to go for our first home fixture of 2024.

We knocked out a Premier League team in the cup on Wednesday, signed a top striker on deadline day, picked up a hard earned away point on Saturday and now we’ve announced a deal for a long-term target. It’s certainly been a great week for the Imps.
