Charley Kendall has completed a permanent move to National League side Woking.
Kendall signed for the Imps in January 2022 from Eastbourne after having an outstanding season in the National League South. He has since struggled on loan spells with Sutton United and Bromley before joining Dagenham and Redbridge at the start of this season. In an announcement today, the Imps confirmed that he had been recalled from his spell at Dagenham and sold on to Woking, with City having a future interest in any move.
At the time of his move, Michael Appleton and Jez George described the striker as a future prospect that we could develop and turn into a first team player. However, Kendall started just two times for City, with both of them coming in the Carabao Cup. He scored just once in a competitive outing against Doncaster, but was also on the scoresheet in friendlies, most recently in a 7-0 win over Boston in July.
City’s director of football, Jez George, said: “This is a good opportunity for Charley to find a permanent home and do what he wants to do: play games and score goals. With the emergence of Freddie Draper and Jovon Makama over the past 12 months, it is the right solution for all parties, and the transfer agreement enables us to maintain a future interest in Charley.
“He’s a great lad, who we all really want to do well and fulfil his ambitions in professional football. Even though that will now be away from Lincoln, he leaves with everyone’s best wishes.”
After just three appearances in League One, Kendall departs Sincil Bank, leaving many fans wondering what could’ve been after he showed so much potential in his Eastbourne spell. Like many previously, this transfer will go down as one that didn’t quite work out leaving many to rue what could’ve been.
