Smith Departs for League Two on Loan
Ali Smith has left Lincoln City to join League Two side AFC Wimbledon on a season long loan.
Smith joined the Imps in the summer of 2023, following his departure from League Two strugglers Sutton United. The 25-year-old was an exciting addition to Mark Kennedy’s side, and was hot property following his spell on the coast. During the first half of last season, the midfielder featured 25 times in all competitions, scoring his one and only goal against Exeter City when Tom Shaw was interim head coach.
He joined Colchester United on loan in January and played regular games for Danny Cowley’s side, and was an integral part to the U’s staying in League Two, featuring 15 times and scoring twice. Once again, he heads out on loan to the league below, and with his contract up at the end of the year, we won’t see Smith in a Lincoln City shirt again.
City’s director of football Jez George said: “This is a good solution for all parties. As Ali’s contact is up at the end of the season, we wish him well at AFC Wimbledon and his future career.”
