Away Day Delight – Wimbledon 0-2 Imps

The imps travelled away to AFC Wimbledon yesterday in search of an important win. Michael Appleton made three changes to the side that lost to Ipswich. Tom Hopper, Joe Walsh and Lasse Sorensen came into the side, while Liam Cullen, Adam Jackson dropped to the bench and Conor McGrandles missed out due to suspension. Jordan Wright continued in goal, with the imps still searching for an emergency loan.

Wimbledon started the strongest out of the two sides, and put us under increasing pressure. Jordan Wright was being tested by Wimbledon but mostly from the edge of the area. I thought Wright had a really good game yesterday and it wouldn’t be the end of the world if we failed to sign a keeper on an emergency loan deal. He kept a cleansheet and his distribution looked really good, and he doesn’t dwell on the ball.

Lewis Fiorini got our first goal of the afternoon relieving pressure. Joe Walsh moved the ball down the left and played it off to Morgan Whittaker, the latter got the ball to Lewis Fiorini on the edge of the area and he did the rest with the ball nestling in the top left corner.

We didn’t play too well, which Michael Appleton admitted post-match but it is good to see us grinding out results, especially in games like that. Everyone put in hard work, especially the front two of Hopper and Marquis, they didn’t stop running all afternoon.

The red card incident was harsh. Lee Brown has been very clever and used his experience against a young player and it’s worked. Brooke has retaliated, it wasn’t a headbutt, but I can’t see the appeal being accepted if we decide to appeal the decision.

With 10 men, nerves started to creep into fans and probably players minds. Our second goal settled everyone’s nerves thankfully, some brilliant work from John Marquis to close down the Dons goalkeeper allowed Ted Bishop to tap home into an open net.

Morgan Whittaker had a good game, he didn’t do well on Tuesday but it was nice to see MA keep the faith in the young lad. MA mentioned that Eyoma had a poor game, which to put it bluntly he did but he has been on a decent run of form, so he’ll bounce back. Regan Poole was incredible and also captained the side, if we decide to let Walsh and Jackson leave in the summer, because of their injury records. We need to build our team around Poole.

We got into Tuesday, which is a free hit in my opinion and if we can get a result, it’d be incredible.
