On Tuesday night, we take on Doncaster Rovers in a game that is more or less a glorified friendly fixture. However despite some fans hatred towards the competition, it is a good opportunity to earn some extra money and field some players who have struggled to earn minutes in the league. In this piece, I will look at three players I believe could get a chance in the side against Doncaster tomorrow night.

#3 – Adam Jackson

Adam Jackson has been unlucky so far this season. He hasn’t had a chance to stake his claim to be in the first team due to the ever present Paudie O’Connor and arguably our best defender in Regan Poole. Jackson has however played his part in recent weeks, coming off the bench and helping us see out results. He featured in our previous cup fixtures and was unlucky to pick up an injury and have to sit out of action for a good few weeks.

Jackson is a very capable defender and one that deserves to be playing if he is on form. An impressive performance on Tuesday may earn him a spot in the league after a disappointing defensive performance on Saturday.

#2 – Charles Vernam

Charles Vernam has struggled to get going in his short time at the club, after signing on a free from Bradford City, for factors all of out of his control. In pre-season, he looked to be our main man in attack, featuring the most in them games. However a late pre-season injury kept him out of action for quite a frustrating amount of time and by the time he returned, Jordon Garrick has signed with the club.

He has missed out due to the form of others, most notably Jack Diamond and Garrick but he did get 45 minutes against Bristol Rovers and he looked quite impressive, so an opportunity to impress over a full game gives him a great platform to stake his claim for a first spot when we return to league action against Bolton in October.

#1 – Jacob Davenport

Jacob Davenport signed for us a few hours before the Derby County fixture at home, and has so far been an unused substitute in both League One fixtures. With the performances of Lasse Sorensen and Matty Virtue in the recent fixtures, he may find it difficult to break himself into the side, worsened by the return of Max Sanders. However, Mark Kennedy may look to get him into action against Doncaster and give the likes of Sorensen a well earned rest.

While having his injury issues, Davenport is will respected in the football world and is a player that we need to manage well to get the best out of. His lack of pre-season and such is an issue and a fixture such as Tuesday gives the manager a perfect opportunity to get him out on the pitch for minutes.
