Lincoln City beat Barnsley away from home on Tuesday night with a great defensive performance in front of over 1,200 Imps supporters.

The game saw Barnsley have most of the ball, but the Yorkshire side failed to make any real good opportunities due to a lack of a clinical edge, and that was not aided by the in-form City back-five. Danny Mandroiu scored the decisive goal for City after a great ball over the Barnsley defence from Imps’ loanee Jack Diamond.

Barnsley manager, Michael Duff labelled City as unbelievably clinical after the game and believes his side should have had more from the game.

“It was disappointing, I thought we deserved something out of the game, we’ve had loads of corners, and they are opportunities we need to take.

The players are trying, they’re not stupid, but it’s disappointing overall. The quality inside the final third hasn’t been good enough. It’s not a case of missing loads of chances, we get the ball into good areas and then hit the first man on a cross.

“We’ve struggled when teams have given us the ball. There isn’t that many players to pick from. The focus in training has been with the ball. The quality has to be in the squad, but at the top end of the pitch we’ve been toothless.

“It’s always a concern, but I think we’re getting done by other teams being unbelievably clinical. In the combined games where we haven’t scored, we’ve only conceded five shots on target.”

It is clear to see that Duff was not best pleased following the game but believes his side have been unlucky of late claiming City and others were “unbelievably clinical”, which is credit to use more than anything.

City will hope they can continue to be clinical on Saturday, with Mark Kennedy’s side taking on Port Vale away from home.
