Regan Poole Receiving Championship Interest
Rumours have circulated in recent days, that our star-man and vice-captain Regan Poole could depart Lincoln City in the January transfer window.
Football League World, who are known to be reliable have reported that a number of clubs are interested in the Welsh defender, and will look to add him to their defensive ranks for the second half of the season. They have said that Cardiff, Luton, Blackpool, Millwall and Huddersfield interested. It is clear that Regan deserves a step up, with the defender now on over 100 appearances and he has been quality in every single on of them. So far this season he has played a crucial part in Mark Kennedy’s project, playing both centre-half, right-back and right wing-back.
Blackpool is a likely option for the Welsh defender, with previous manager Michael Appleton currently at the club. Michael brought Regan to the club and saw him have his best season of his career in 21/22. However, with Michael under pressure at Blackpool, Regan may be forced to consider that factor and also look at their poor league position before jumping to a conclusion. Another sensible option for the defender would be him moving back to Cardiff City, who he was with for a period of time in his youth career until 2014. Having been born in Cardiff too, it might be too good of an opportunity to turn down for Regan.
As we are all well aware, Regan is a quality defender and out of anyone in our current squad, he would be the most deserving of Championship football. His technical ability along with his leadership and professional qualities have been crucial for Lincoln City since he arrived and with his contract expiring in the summer, a departure for cash in January may be the best option for him.
While he is important to us and our system, we are well stocked in defense, with Adam Jackson, Joe Walsh, Paudie O’Connor and TJ Eyoma proving to capable centre-half’s recently, as well as having the option of Sean Roughan playing there. That is all without mentioning the return of Lewis Montsma soon, who should be back before January. Our real worry would be a wing-back or right-back option, but the cash for Poole’s departure could be crucial for reinvestment into that area.
Whatever happens I will always respect Regan, the times I’ve dealt with him he has been excellent and nothing but supportive and polite. As well as being professional, he is also very welcoming and his interactions with fans should be an example to the rest. I hope he stays and signs a big new deal, but with that not very realistic we may see him depart Sincil Bank.
