Lincoln City have today completed the signing of young St Mirren midfield Ethan Erhahon on a permanent deal.
The Scottish Under 21 International has signed a long term contract with the Imps and will look to become a creative powerhouse in central midfield. Ethan comes with a price tag, which is rare for City and he comes with a sense of excitement and potential too. I just want to put out there as well that the fee I’ve seen isn’t fully true. Sky Sports showed it as £350,000, and after having a few conversations to some people earlier today, the fee is no where near that initially. My point still stands though, that a fee is involved and that is a big statement of intent from the football club.
Not only does the fee show the boards ambition, the other clubs we saw off to get the deal done is impressive too. Portsmouth had reported interest while fellow clubs Oxford United and Forest Green lodged bids for the player, with the latter’s being accepted. Ethan chose a move to Sincil Bank over the New Lawn and he could become a real asset for us over the coming months and years. I tend not to get too over excited by a new signing, but I can’t help myself with this one. I have watched over an hour of St Mirren gameplay since yesterday, with clips of his defensive and attacking ability both in and out of possession and I think we have a real player on our hands.
He operates normally as a holding midfielder, something we’ve needed since we lost Liam Bridcutt in the summer, and for his age he has played a large amount of games too. He has appeared for St Mirren 123 times overall, clearly showing his potential. Despite being settled in Scotland, Ethan wanted to test himself in England and take the next step in his career, “I have always said I wanted to play in England and push myself to the next level. I feel Lincoln is the right place and club for the next stage in my development, and I’m really looking forward to getting going.”
He has come under critism lately from many fans, but Ethan also spoke of the influence of City Director of Football Jez George in his move to City, “Jez George came up to Scotland to speak to me which meant a lot, the club showed they wanted me and I was impressed with the plans for the club – hopefully we can go far together.”
Ethan can play multiple different roles and will play a big part with the absence of Matty Virtue due to injury from the first team picture. “I have played as a No.6 this year, but I have also played as a No.8 – I like to get about the park and dictate play. I’m not afraid to tackle either.” Ethan showed a touch of class and paid tribute to his old club, St Mirren, which has been his home for his whole football career, “I’ve been at St Mirren since I was a young kid, have gone from boy to a man with them, played more than 100 games and am very grateful for everything they’ve done for me.”
