Imps Set to Miss Out on Tayo Edun Return

City look set to miss out on a reunion with Tayo Edun with Charlton Athletic looking extremely likely to secure the ex-Imp on a loan deal from Blackburn Rovers.

Tayo joined City in January 2020, but really made a name for himself in the 20/21 season when Michael Appleton’s side reached the play-off final before suffering heartbreak to Blackpool. Tayo started the 21/22 season with the Imps before securing a move to the Championship with Blackburn Rovers. Despite having a place in the side at Blackburn when he first arrived, he has slowly lost his first team spot under the new management of Jon Dahl Tomasson.

Football Insider reported earlier this week that despite interest from Sheffield Wednesday and Lincoln City, Charlton Athletic are still leading the race giving the Imps a bitter blow and lowering their chances of bringing the young full-back back to Sincil Bank.

Charlton boss Dean Holden admittedly shrugged off questions concerning the transfer after his team’s League Cup match against Manchester United on Tuesday, saying his team’s sole emphasis had been on the game at Old Trafford and that his attention now turned to the weekend’s league match against Barnsley. The South London Press, however, continued to report that the Addicks are hopeful of securing a deal to bring the left-back to the team on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

The signing would have been a massive coup for the Imps and would have provided much needed cover in midfield, with Matty Virtue set for a prolonged period on the side line. The signing of Harry Boyes on loan from Sheffield United has softened the blow of missing out on Tayo, if we were truly interested, but we will need to act quick to find another player to add to our ranks before MK Dons on Saturday.
