City goalkeeper Sam Long has left the Imps on loan today to National League side Bromley until the end of the current campaign
Sam has made six senior appearances for us. His league debut came in our 2-1 win away at Plymouth Argyle last season. Long will work alongside fellow Imp Charley Kendall at Bromley. Long spent last season on loan with Drogheda in Ireland. He played 15 games for the Drogs, keeping three clean sheets, but he really impressed during his time there. His performance in Ireland earned him a call-up to the Scotland Under-21 squad, and he’d previously attended an England training camp. Bromley are currently sixth in the National League, which is a play-off position. Sam has a good chance of getting some playing time; they recently had Arsenal youngster Tom Smith, who appeared 13 times and kept three clean sheets. However, he was recalled today and given to League Two club Colchester United on another loan move.
Sam is a player that I really rate ever since I did an exclusive interview with him eighteen months ago, and he has certainly got the potential to be our number one, and trust me I am not the only one who holds that opinion of him, so hopefully this loan move is good for his development and it can help him gain experience in a tough league. I wish Sam all the luck and hopefully he and Charley can make an impact together at Bromley.
