Tom Hopper set for League Two switch
Lincoln City Captain Tom Hopper is set for a move to League Two side Colchester United.
Wednesday afternoon has seen a whole load of rumors move very quickly, with Hopper’s move first being reported around midday by Football League World, who are usually a reliable source. Them rumors have since been confirmed by Ryan Whelan on Twitter, who is an extremely reliable source and one that I personally trust. Not only did he confirm the rumors, but he has confirmed a deal has been agreed for the transfer of Tom Hopper to Colchester in the last few hours.
Tom was made our captain at the start of the season, with a lot expectation on his shoulders to carry us forward under Mark Kennedy. However he has lost his place in the side due to injury and once he returned, he was unable to work his way back into the team due to the emergence of Ben House. When Tom has played recently, he has come under criticism from fans due to his lack of goal scoring ability of recent. Tom was never known for his goal scoring but his ability for bringing others into play and that was evident during the 20/21 season with Tom being crucial in that play-off, scoring nine goals while having so much influence across the front three.
Tom now looks set to leave City, which could be considered a blow as he is considered a senior member of our squad and a key member of the team off the field. On the other hand however, Tom looks a shadow of his former self and has failed to reach the heights he reached 2 seasons ago, that being said it may be the right time for him to leave City and seek a new start.
