Sheffield Wednesday’s Darren Moore: “They’ve had one shot and got a point.”
Darren Moore makes a rather strange claim post-match claiming that the Imps only had one shot in ninety minutes of play against his Wednesday side.
Sheffield Wednesday manager Darren Moore spoke on Lincoln City after his side couldn’t find a way past a resolute Imps defence as they went five unbeaten, losing some advantage in the race for automatic promotion.
Wednesday scored early on through a head from Michael Smith and it looked like it was going to be a long afternoon for Mark Kennedy’s side, who also held Wednesday earlier in the season at Sincil Bank thanks to a goal from Danny Mandroiu.
Danny was once again the thorn in Moore’s side but the ex-Doncaster Rovers manager thought the goal was rather fortuitous, with a potential foul in the build-up from Harry Boyes.
“They got back in it, a little bit fortuitously because it could have gone as a foul on Liam Palmer, and then they sat back in the low block.
Moore also touched on the number of draws we’ve picked up this season and claims it’s remarkable while praising the defensive side of our game, labelling us resolute.
“They’ve drawn 19 games this season which is remarkable and shows they stay resolute with a back five and four in front. We weren’t able to force the winner. It felt like we were going to score. We put Mallik (Wilks) and Dennis (Adeniran) on but couldn’t force it.”
Moore made some false claims too, saying that the Imps only had a one-shot, when it was clear we had a few chances throughout the ninety chances and actually had a higher expected goal stat than his side in the first half.
“Despite all the efforts we weren’t able to find that second goal. They’ve had one shot and got a point. There’s still lots of football to be played.”
While I think Moore’s comments are complimentary of the Imps for the most part, his final comment about us having one shot appears to be completely wrong and it seems as if the Wednesday manager should maybe rewatch the game without his blue and white tinted glasses.
