City have secured the signing of the signing of Alex Mitchell on a season long loan from Championship side Millwall.
Mitchell started his youth career at Millwall, before making his first loan move to National League side Bromley in 2021. He helped Bromley to the National League playoff semi-finals, but the Ravens fell to defeat. Mitchell then made his first team debut for Millwall against Cambridge United in the Carabao Cup in August 2021. He signed a new deal with to keep him at the Den, before leaving on loan to Leyton Orient in 21/22 making 30 appearances. Last season he spent time on loan with Scottish Premiership side St Johnstone. He impressed in Scotland, making 29 appearances and scoring his first senior goal.
After signing, he said: “This is a great opportunity for me, I’ve had a nice trajectory with my loans with an increase in level each time which has really helped me and I can’t wait to make the step up to League One.
“Everyone at the club has been brilliant – I wanted to come from my first conversation with Jez. I’ve asked ex players and staff about the club and they all only have positive things to say. I’ve had a walk around Lincoln, learning all about the amazing history of the city, and now I can’t wait to get going and am really looking forward to playing for this club.”
The 21-year-old central defender stands at 6″3, and adds some much needed strength to our defensive ranks. City have struggled recently with Adam Jackson nursing small injuries, leaving just Sean Roughan, TJ Eyoma and Paudie O’Connor as first choice defenders. City have conceded five goals in their first three games and despite good performances in central defence, this is a welcome addition to increase competition in crucial areas of the pitch. City’s squad is almost complete now, and it’s very likely we might only see one more incoming before the end of the window, which would be an attack minded player.
Alex will be available for our visit to Shrewsbury Town this weekend, and could make his debut in the back three.
