Tom Shaw confirmed in a pre-match press conference for Tuesday’s home fixture against Charlton that Tyler Walker is closing in on a return to action for Lincoln City.

The 26-year-old hit sixteen goals during a prolific loan spell with the Imps in the 2019/20 season, before rejoining the club in the summer on a free transfer. Following his initial spell, Walker spent time with Championship side Coventry City, making over 70 appearances.

He made his second debut for the Imps away at Bolton Wanderers on the opening day of the season. Walker went on to make another six appearances before picking up a long term hamstring injury in August before we faced Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Since Walker last appeared for the Imps, there has been a change in management with Mark Kennedy and Danny Butterfield dismissed earlier this month. Shaw has been in charge as interim head coach since the Irishman’s departure, picking up seven points from three games.

Shaw confirmed in the build-up to City’s fixture against Oxford United that Walker was back on the grass, and making good progress.

He said: “Tyler Walker was back on the grass today – which was a great sight.”

The interim head coach was previously quoted in the build-up to City’s away trip to Exeter City saying: “Tyler Walker will return sooner [than Ben House]. We’ve got to get him back out on the grass ready to show robustness, get a string of games together and get his flow going.

“It’s not going to be straight away, but it’s coming. He is putting so much effort in in the gym. You can see every day he’s getting himself in the best physical condition for his return to training, which is just around the corner.”

Walker making progress in his recovery is good news for City fans, and a more attacking style with a change of manager could suit the striker really well in the coming months.
