It has been a few days since we were well beaten by Cambridge United away from home. I have been extremely busy since then and that on top of the site going through maintenance has meant I have been unable to get any content out surrounding the game. That could be a good thing though, as I came back from the game quite angry with how the game had gone and I may have said things that I later do not agree with. Whilst I’d love to go on and write 2000 words about what I think went wrong Saturday, I think that should be put aside and we should focus on the positives and the qualities of our squad and start so far. The first half at Cambridge was nothing short of a disgrace and I don’t like criticizing the team often but there is no silver lining of that performance on Saturday, but as I said there is reasons to be positive going into Saturday’s fixture against Accrington Stanley at home.

Joe Walsh showed his quality in the second period after he came on as a second half substitute. He will be a massive plus for us if he can keep himself fit going as we go into a crucial part of the season. We all know the quality Walsh has and it is no secret that we have looked somewhat inexperienced and exposed defensively at times in games this season and after he came on we looked much more relaxed in the backline. Matty Virtue is another massive positive. He was the second of the two substitutes we made at half-time and he looked to add some calmness to the midfield. Blackpool have loaned him out but he has played games for them at Championship level, which shows he has quality. He may be a completely different build and age to Bridcutt, but he looks as if he might add what we miss without Bridcutt bar the experience.

We still have so many more players expected back fit too. Danny Mandroiu is a player we haven’t even see kick a ball yet, and if his spell at Shamrock Rovers is anything to go by we have a good player on our hands. Jordon Garrick is set to return soon and he played well during the few games he has featured in so far. Max Sanders had an excellent start to the campaign and we are certainly missing his energy in the midfield. I am excited by Jack Diamond. Even during the Cambridge game, he was easily our brightest attacking player of those who started. Charles Vernam came on and made a big impact for our attacking play, which is great news for us.

Unfortunately, last week was seen as a negative on for the club. It started with us bottling a 2-0 lead at home, and then the fans were outraged at the activities on deadline day on social media and then it finished on another low with a very much below par performance away from home in front of over 1,000 imps fans (who took up 1/5 of the overall attendance, which is so admirable in these difficult times).

This wasn’t going to be a long piece as I feel the game has already been covered in detail elsewhere and by now you probably want to forget it ever happened, as do I. However, I have one last thing to put on here before I round it up, I understand how hard it is at the minute with the cost of living etc, but if you can please get down to Sincil Bank this weekend and support the lads. Mark, his staff and the players need all of us to behind them as the Kennedy era ramps up over the coming months.

Thanks for your support as always, Up The Imps.
